There is a saying, “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.” It means making the best out of a difficult situation. I had the incident which depicts that phrase. It was early august of 2016. I just had graduated my high school, so to make the most of my leisure time, I was interning as a photographer/videographer at a design studio. The commute time from my house to work was about forty-five minutes on a good day. I used to commute on a motorcycle.

It was a normal sunny day. Due to binge-watching YouTube videos the previous day, I woke up a bit late. I was hurrying up to get ready for work. Since the weather was so good, I decided not to wear a jacket that day. On the normal days, I used to wear a jacket as a safety measure while riding a motorcycle but, this day was an exception. I left my house in a hurry. Since I did not want to be late for work, I was riding my motorcycle at high speed than I normally would. Due to the poor maintenance of roads, half of my commute was a semi-topped road. The ride was very rough, but I had to get to work on time. One of the fun things about the commute was dodging the potholes. It was exciting and scary at the same time. After I passed the semi-topped road, the next phase a topped road. Unlike dodging potholes, I had to dodge other vehicles on the road. There was one motorcycle ahead of me. He was wearing a half helmet. It was normal for me until he spitted on the road while riding a motorcycle. I overtook him and was looking at him because his behavior made me mad. At this point, I was completely distracted by him. The time I looked front, there was a bus coming towards me at a high speed and we collided.

This exact moment felt like a dream. I got hit by the bus which was approaching from the opposite side. The bus violated the traffic rule by crossing the centerline. As I hit the bus, the next thing I remember was that I was lying on the road, surrounded by a crowd of people. I was a bit unconscious. My mind went completely blank and it took me quite a while to realize what just happened. Even though I was bleeding, pants were torn with a shoe missing from my feet, the first thing that I thought was about my family. I did not even feel the pain. I was numb. I had vivid pictures of my parents on my head. I was scared and felt very lonely in the crowd of people. I just kept wishing that it was just a bad dream.

After around 20 minutes, someone had taken me to the hospital. Thankfully, the hospital was nearby. I was lying down on the bed in the emergency room. The police were there. They were interrogating me about the accident. Luckily, I had a small action camera mounted on my helmet. The whole accident was recorded. It was very useful evidence to report the accident. Later, I came to know that the driver of the bus has fled the scene. Since the bus was a public bus, it was easy to trace the driver. The driver got arrested in around 3 hours. Luckily, I was not that hurt in comparison to the scale of the accident.

After this accident, I feel like I am living my second life. It taught me many life lessons and changed the way I think about life. It also changed my perspective on time. Time never waits, the clock is always ticking. Whatever you are doing right now becomes past in a matter of seconds. You never know what is ahead of your life, anything can occur at any time. So, live life like there is no tomorrow and always utilize your time wisely. I self-reflected how careless I was when riding a motorcycle. People’s life changes in a split of a second. Now, whenever I think about this accident, it plays like a slow-motion video in my head. It was indeed the luckiest day of my life yet.
